We’re back with another episode of the Players to Watch’ series, taking a look at the premium, budget and value options amongst forwards for the 2018/19 Premier League season.

Having scored 104 goals across the last 4 seasons, Harry Kane sets the standard for a top FPL forward. His tally of 29 goals, 2 assists and 217 FPL points last time around means he comes in at £12.5m, understandably making him the most expensive forward option.

But besides the Spurs man, who else should we consider upfront next season?

Premium Pick: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (11.0)

Since arriving at Arsenal, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made 12 starts between Gameweeks 26 and 38 last season, where he returned an impressive tally of 10 goals, 4 assists and 87 FPL points.

During that period (GW26-38), the Arsenal forward’s tally of 19 efforts on target was level with Kane and only beaten by Salah (22), while his involvement in 13 ‘big chances’ was on par with the Egypt international.

Aubameyang’s average of 6.7 points per match was more than Kane (5.9), Firmino (4.9) and Lukaku (4.8), while only Sergio Aguero narrowly managed more amongst forwards, with 6.8 points per match.

With a full pre-season under his belt and no involvement in the 2018 World Cup, unlike Aguero and Kane, we can surely expect even bigger things from the 29-year-old in the coming season.

Budget Pick: Marko Arnautovic (7.0)

After playing as a striker for 16 of his 31 appearances in the 2017/18 season, Marko Arnautovic has been reclassified for the new season and is now a forward in FPL.

He was directly involved in 18 of West Ham’s goals last season (11 goals, 7 assists), with 9 of his 11 goals coming when playing as a centre-forward.

In 2018 (GW23-38) only Kane (13), Aubameyang (14), Sterling (14) and Salah (20) provided more than Arnautovic’s 12 FPL involvements (6 goals, 6 assists).

His 20 efforts on target in that time was beaten by only Salah, with 27 and Kane, with 29, while only De Bruyne (7) and Sterling (10) provided more than his 6 assists.

The Austrian international has lined up as a forward during West Ham’s pre-season matches so far, so looks set to continue that role under new manager, Manuel Pellegrini.

Value Pick: Roberto Firmino (9.5)

Roberto Firmino enjoyed his best ever Premier League goals tally, finding the back of the net 15 times last season, while providing 8 assists.

He’s now spent 3 years in the Premier League, providing a total of 36 goals and 27 assists in that time and looks completely at home, alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané.

Firmino’s average of 4.9 points per match last season was more than Lukaku (4.8) could manage and bettered by only Kane (5.9), Aubameyang (6.7) and Aguero (6.8) amongst forwards, who have each been given much higher price tags than the Brazilian.

The Liverpool forward’s tally of 38 efforts on target last season was 4th best amongst forwards, with only Lukaku (43), Aguero (43) and Kane (76) producing more but no forward provided more than Firmino’s 8 assists or his 57 attempted assists.

With strong underlying numbers like these, Firmino looks set to once again provide value amongst forwards, offering a reliable alternative to the more expensive premium picks.
