The Role of Diversity in the next Human Spaceflight Revolution | Jamie Voros | TEDxCherryCreekWomen
We are about to enter the next revolution in human space exploration. This year, we have seen a private company take astronauts from earth to the International Space Station (ISS) for the first time in history. NASA’s Artemis program seeks to put people back on the moon in 2024. Crewed missions to Mars are on the horizon. Aerospace engineer Jamie Voros talks about the importance of having diverse teams design and build the next generation of spacecraft.
Jamie Voros is a PhD student and graduate researcher at the University of Colorado Boulder and works in the Bioastronautics laboratory. Designing for humans in aerospace is a fundamental part of her research. Her work focuses on stimulating the vestibular system and creating a computational model of human perception for the purpose of better designing control systems for complex aircraft and spacecraft. She received her BS from MIT in Aerospace Engineering and in Architecture. Jamie Voros is currently completing her PhD in Aerospace Engineering Sciences within the Bioastronautics Laboratory at the University of Colorado Boulder. She is studying the efficacy of novel technologies that may ultimately support humans on long duration space missions. She has previously worked on quantifying trust in autonomous systems at CU's ATLAS Institute and on 3D printing artificial bone in the Laboratory for Atomistic and Molecular Mechanics at MIT.
Jamie is particularly passionate about human spaceflights because of the opportunities it presents to expand scientific understanding of our universe, build upon existing technologies and, most importantly, foster teamwork across nations. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
