സഹോദരൻ അയ്യപ്പനും യുക്തിചിന്തയുടെ രാഷ്ട്രീയ ആവിഷ്കാരവും |Rationalism as Politics (Malayalam) By Viswanathan C.In this presentation, Dr.Viswanathan traces how liberal democracy happens to be a political expression of enlightenment rationalism, by tracing the political positions upheld during his time by Sahodran Ayyappan (1889- 1968), arguably the first and foremost rationalist of Kerala. Sahodaran himself defined his 'rationalism' thus: "Rationalism, after all, is the weighing of evidence by clear thinking and sifting truth from falsehood in all matters amenable to investigation". Like Ambedkar, Ayyappan too was not active in anti-British struggles in Pre independence India. Their politics was aimed at emancipation of the large section of the Indians considered 'impure' by the 'traditional society'. Thus, they realized that transition to a post traditional society through enlightenment style critique of the values and mores of the existing society should be their greatest priority.
