Willpower Is The Worst Way

Today we're discussing instant gratification, the problem with willpower, and the part of our brain we rarely think about - but that has a big impact on our behaviours and ability to change them.
*Note: The brain is not divided in half or in two etc. It's not that clearcut - just trying to lump useful information together to make a cohesive video that is helpful and makes sense lol.
We're all very familiar with the conscious, rational part of our brains, but there's a lot more to our behaviour and habits than we have access to on the surface.
It turns out that our mind is divided into separate parts that sometimes come into conflict with one another - there's the rational brain... and the emotional habitual brain.
Both 'brains' have their own strengths, weaknesses, and priorities - which is where willpower comes in.
We'll discuss motivation, habits, instant gratification, and the logical, emotional, and habitual sides of ourselves.
Why good intentions are not enough to change our behaviour.
Why willpower doesn't work.
Why instant gratification is so tempting - but results in our unhappiness.
And what we can do to change!
Along with Jonathan Haidt's elephant and rider metaphor, Tim Urban's ted talk "Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator", and Robert Sapolsky (author of Behave).
