Megacities serve as transport centers for regions and metropolitan areas. In addition to the city's own transport infrastructure, megacities handle suburban traffic flows and are important transfer centers between regions. New routes make it possible to lessen the load on the city centers. Properly organized transfer hubs distribute traffic evenly between different modes of transport and management of ground transportation and the optimization of personal transportation can provide citizens with a high-quality and safe transportation service.
The increase of the street and road network in Moscow in the period from 2012 to 2020 was from 1 to 1.5 million square meters annually. The main road project in Moscow is the construction of chorded highways in the city. They are becoming key elements of the new transport framework of Moscow.
