Victory Day 2013 in Almaty, Kazakhstan

Victory Day on 9 May (Жеңіс күні / День Победы / 9 мая / 9 мамыр) is an important Kazakhstani national holiday celebrating the victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War.

In Almaty city, the celebration is held yearly at 28 Panfilov Heroes Memorial Park, and on this day, Kazakhstanis of all ages and ethnicities would give respect and honour those who died in the war as well as the surviving war veterans by giving them flowers.

2013 was no different with a concert commemorating the event held next to Ascension Cathedral and a banquet was held for the war veterans who proudly displayed their war medals and badges. It was an incredible event for Kazakhstani citizens of all races to mark this special occasion and give thanks for the peaceful multicultural society they live in today.
