Frankie Staton and Valierie Ellis Hawkins on the Black Country Music Association

Conceptualized by performers Cleve Francis and Vanessa Hill, the Black Country Music Association, founded in 1995, was designed to heighten the visibility of black artists seeking careers within the country music industry. The Black Country Music Association is featured in this year’s installment of "American Currents: State of the Music" alongside the Black Opry in the "Unbroken Circle" portion of the exhibit. "American Currents," the annual Museum exhibition designed to offer perspective on country music's latest chapter, is open now through February 2024.
