Expensive Days Pike Fishing on the River Erne, Vlog 50

The day started off strange on the way to the fishing location I seen a burnt out car in the car park, I suppose this is part and parcel of fishing beside a major town like Enniskillen after all there’s crimes in all major towns and cities as I got out the van I had the shits scared out of me by a dumb bird a Heron.

Little did I know at this point just how much I would end up hating this bloody creature.

The session got off to a flyer a stunning 17lbs 4oz River Pike on a ledgered Herring. I fished on the inside of the current as 5oz leads weren’t holding the bottom so I needed to fish on the inside of slack water and after a screaming run a well conditioned river Erne Pike lay looking up at me in the landing net.

I thought I could be in for a good day here ok up to this point the Herron had been a pest it had tried to take deadbaits on the cast out and my patience was wearing thin with this unwanted wildlife attention. Then it went from bad to worse.

BANG I look up and the heron has flown into my third rod, its flown in with such force its sent the rod flying 2 feet into the river and sending the cygnet 20/20 bank stick, Stage Stand and Delkin Txi alarm into the river the stupid bird rolled round the jetty squawking and making high pitched noises at me as I tried my best to save my tackle. Having got the Rod a Dave Lumb Bait Blaster that was custom built for me and a Shimano XTEA 10000 Super Baitrunner but the bankstick stage stand and delkim alarm is gone.

A £200.00 day out fishing

I swear if I wasn’t a animal person id have kicked that fucking bird round the carpark until it shit purple and begged forgiveness.

So here we go, I am currently writing this in my house drinking a beer and shopping on ebay for Delkim alarm replacements along with Cygnet Bankstick and Stagestand.

Depressing day if I'm honest.

Still at least it wasn’t a blank.

Gotta enjoy the small things I guess.

Reels I tend to stick with Shimano Reels as I trust them, I use a few different models of Shimano Reel for Pike fishing from Big Pits to Bait Runners.
I get my bait oils, AFW Bleeding Leader Wire and terminal tackle from Eddie Turner https://www.eddieturner.co.uk/ Eddies Oil is simply the best there’s nothing that comes close to it in my humble opinion. He’s also a great font of knowledge and published author I have lost count of the times I’ve annoyed him for ideas on rigs and how best to fish certain locations.

I use happily recommend two Dead Bait bait companies one is Nev Fickling’s Lucebait’s http://www.thetackle-shop.co.uk/section66/Frozen-Fish.html the other is Scotland’s finest Gadda Baits http://www.gaddabaits.com/ both are excellent.

I happily recommend the tackle shop Fishing Tackle & Bait, https://www.fishingtackleandbait.co.uk/ in Enniskillen Northern Ireland. It’s my local shop it’s the sort of place I can go in and ask if they will order two different types of chair which they did I then picked one and bough it, not only was this not a bother to them they even matched the cheapest internet price for the chair I chose, David and the guys in FTB frequently bend over backwards to go that extra mile to help folk out.
