The Deadly KID Pawn
What makes a chess combination beautiful? It can be many things, and the combination executed in this game from 1997 contains lots! Czech Grandmaster Lubomir Ftacnik, playing white, and Yugoslavian Grandmaster Ognjen Cvitan enter the highly theorized Mar del Plata variation of the King's Indian Defense (KID). The typical Mar del Plata race culminates with a beautifully coordinated combination involving a queen, bishop, 2 knights, and 1 deadly pawn.
