Romania. Transylvania is known for still having very strong medieval vestiges. Local witches consider themselves the descendants of the bloodthirsty count. In Romanian, vampires are called strigoi, which means screaming owl. This nocturnal bird has always been considered a witch, demonic. According to the gypsy legend, "living strigoi" are sorceresses who are destined to become vampires after death. At night, their souls can fly to the Sabbath, drink the blood of people or livestock.
