Suzuki Savage 650 Carburetor Rebuild (Part 1)

Getting started on this carb rebuild thing. This is my first time getting into a carburetor, so I'm not confident in anything I'm doing.

I noticed as I was taking things apart that it looked like the carb has had some sort of work done (or an attempt at least) since some screws were almost stripped. I noticed as I was putting it back together that the jets that came in the kit had smaller holes than the stock ones. All in all, I am pretty confused, but I'm just using my best judgement here.

Some alarming things I noticed was that jelly looking thing at the bottom of the carb, the main jet had a bunch of gunk, and the part that the float moves on had some gunk as well which made it hard to remove (interestingly enough, the new part came with a little filter that the old part did not have).
