The Omo Valley, where life flows with the river

The Lower Omo Valley in southwestern Ethiopia is an ancient land where people continue to live in contact with nature and far from modernity. Where light and darkness dictate the pace of life. But the impacts of a mega-dam, climate change and booming tourism industry are challenging the tribes’ ability to sustain themselves and maintain ancestral ways of life.

A first-hand account of the hardship faced by the Arbore, Dassanech, Hamer, Kara and Mursi tribes that sheds light on their lifestyles and worldviews. An exclusive reportage by LifeGate in collaboration with the NGO Barjo Imè to learn more about these populations: their resilience, sense of community and profound respect for nature.
