Spider-Man had a long road to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Before he made his cameo appearance in Captain America: Civil War prior to his solo outing in Homecoming, Spider-Man was on the top of everyone’s wish list to join the juggernaut that is the MCU, but the rights had been sold off years ago in an attempt to keep the lights on at the struggling Marvel Comics. Now that he’s here and the Infinity Saga has come to a close, it looks like Peter Parker will be the one to take over for Tony Stark and Iron Man as the heroic center of the MCU.

With threats that are both personal to Peter Parker as well as to the world of Marvel as a whole, like Norman Osborne on the horizon, Parker could find himself at the center of a conflict that involves more than just him. With Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange all having their own paths to follow, the heart of the MCU lies with Peter Parker. As one of the most popular and recognizable superheroes in the world and a marque character for Marvel Comics, Spider-Man is the obvious choice for the face of the MCU, but Peter Parker also brings his science chops to his role as the newest science bro along with science sis Shuri. As we wait for Spider-Man: Far From Home to bring Phase 3 to a close and we look forward to Phase 4 and beyond, let’s look at what role Peter Parker might play.
