The Answer to Cancer Lies in the Past | Lincoln Nadauld | TEDxBYU
One in three people will be diagnosed with cancer—for some, cure will be an option; for others, cure will not. Why are outcomes so disparate? What treatment achieves greater success for patients? Lincoln Nadauld, MD, PhD, takes the audience on a journey through the intricacies of DNA, precision medicine, and discovering answers to cancer that lie hidden in the past.
Nadauld, who serves as Executive Director of the Precision Cancer program at Intermountain Healthcare, believes the answers to these, and other questions, are locked away in millions of archived samples from past patients. Nadauld and the genomics team are looking at the personalized and unique DNA of individual patients. It opens the door to manufacture personalized medication that gives patients a more effective treatment plan.
Lincoln Nadauld, MD, PhD, is the Executive Director of Precision Medicine and Precision Genomics at Intermountain Healthcare. Dr. Nadauld recently participated in the Precision Medicine Initiative Summit and joined roundtables at the White House with President Barack Obama. He also attended Vice President Joe Biden’s Cancer Moonshot Summit, where the Oncology Precision Network (OPeN), spearheaded by Dr. Nadauld, was mentioned among the Vice President’s remarks. Dr. Nadauld completed his undergraduate education at Brigham Young University, and went on to complete combined MD/PhD and clinical training at the University of Utah. He completed clinical training in Medical Oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in solid tumor genomics.
