Motorcycle Stereo - Boss MC400 on a Harley-Davidson Softail TC96B (Review)

(Para versão em Português, https://youtu.be/jvAsIHxbyTg

So I decided I wanted to have a stereo on my ride to listen some tunes on the road.

After some research (thank you YouTube reviewers), I decided on the MC400 from BOSS. It costs around USD 60.00 on Amazon (for all you US buyers). I paid a little more, as I bought it from a Brazilian seller in order to save time.

Why the MC400 with an external audio source instead of the 500? Well... I checked the manuals, and the MC500 uses two wires (like the 400) to plug it to the motorcycle electrical system. No ignition switch wire... so or I install it directly on the battery (with the HIGH risk of some moron fiddling around in my bike whilst parked and returning to find a dead battery), or plug it on the ignition wire and lose all FM station memories/last MP3 track played EVERY TIME I turn the ignition off.

Of course, I could use an iPod or a cell phone for playing my tunes, but I preferred to install this car radio I had laying around at my house. Then everything is hooked up to ignition switch (works only with the key on ignition/ACC), and it keeps my station memories/last track played on the radio.

The FM antenna is installed on the windscreen (my windscreen is not detachable, it is fixed).

I used some P-clamps to put the speakers on a lower position, as I don´t like them hanging under/over the mirrors (specially because I have 16" ape hangers, they would look nasty that way).

The first part of the video (up to 05:24) is a "still test", with the engine off and standing still, and details of the (temporary) installation. I know it´s a mess, I´ll tuck the wires properly and make it look better as soon as I have the time to do so.

The second part (after 05:24) is a road test on highway speeds.

My ride is a 2014 Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe (properly "Heritaged" with accessories LOL), with sport mufflers (don´t know the brand name, they came on the bike) on its TC96B engine (TC103 was only offered in Brazil for the 2016 lineup).

Hope you enjoy it!
