God's Window is one of the most scenic vantage points in the whole of South Africa. Situated along the Panorama Route in the Mpumalanga province, on the Drakensberg escarpment, you just have to look down to realise why it has been given this special name.

God’s Window is a must-visit. Aside from God’s Window, other well-known spots on the route include Bourke’s Luck Potholes, the Three Rondavels, the Mac-Mac Falls and the Blyde River Canyon.

The canyon offers spectacular scenery. It is also one of the best birding spots in the country and a popular destination for adventure seekers. For mountain bike enthusiasts, this area has numerous challenging trails. The towns of Lydenburg and White River are gateways to the Panorama Route.

At God’s Window, beautiful cliffs plunge down 700m, and on a clear day apparently, you might be able to see the famous Kruger National Park towards the Lebombo Mountains on South Africa’s border with Mozambique.

We stayed overnight at Mawusi Bush Lodge, one of the few properties in the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate which has huge Leadwood, Maroela and Knobthorn trees making it unique. You will also find numerous other species of trees on this property.

According to the lovely owners of Mawusi Bush Lodge - Kudu, nyala, waterbuck, impala, zebra, wildebeest, warthog, duiker and giraffe are regularly seen feeding or quenching their thirst near the lodge. The elusive leopards often visit. Hyena and wild dog have been sighted on the Estate. Nocturnal animals found include porcupine, civet, African wildcat and genet. Bushbabies are a regular sighting in the early evening whilst the honey badger and aardvark are seen on very rare occasions.
