9V EBL rechargeable lithium ion battery
Disclaimer: Do this at your own risk
I've been looking for 9v rechargeable batteries for use in my smoke detectors and came across the EBL lithium ion rechargeable 9 volt batteries.
They are rated at 600 mA with a nominal voltage of 7.4 volt. You can charge them up to 8.2 volt for regular usage. I got 542 mA when I charged the battery to 8.3 volt and discharged the battery to 6 volt at a discharge rate of .5 amp. Depending on how fully you charge a battery and how quickly and how low a voltage you discharge it, you can end up with a different rating for the capacity. How well the battery can hold a charge is another issue you won't know until further down the line.
542 mA is not bad for a 9 volt battery but then this is not a true 9v battery. It is 8.2 to 8.4 volt at best. It seems to work in my smoke detector though so I'll come back and tell you in a year or so how well it works in a smoke detector.
The 9v cells are available for about $4.50 each and the charger $8. Link to eBay sellers change over time. You can do a search on eBay by entering the search term "9 volt EBL rechargeable lithium ion battery".
