Fitness trackers with the brand Honor are popular enough already. Smartwatches – not that much.
The MagicWatch 2 is the second generation of the series, and offers exceptional quality and features for around $160
The unboxing experience is outstanding – you have that premium feeling all the time, and I so much admire the series for maintaining that feeling.
Here’s the hardware: Kirin A1, with 32MB RAM and very efficient operation; the 4GB storage – can be used only for music files, a brilliant 1.39’’ OLED display with stunning pixel density and visibility in daylight, dual-satellite GPS and Bluetooth 5.1. Everything that is part of it shouts 2020 – and is pretty innovative.
The display is definitely stunning – covered by non-scratchable glass; the watch has metal body, and build quality is superb.
And the availability of microphpne and speaker which do not sacrifice the waterproofness – are perhaps the second biggest key selling point., Because the top 1 spot is most certainly the battery – embedded is a 455mAh battery, which puts to shame pretty much every popular brand that claims to offer good endurance. To speak in numbers: with always ON display, sleep tracking, 24/7 heartrate and stress tracking, occasional sports, notifications enabled, 1-2 calls per day, one hour sport activity with GPS every other day – it lasts between 3 and 4 days. Drop the always on display – and you get that doubled. Drop the HR and stress tracking and reduce the sports – and you will count on up to 18 days of battery life!!! Right now this is unbeatable. And – to share a basic example – I’ve been using the Honor Magic 2 and the Galaxy Active 2 at the same time for almost 2 weeks now. And I’ve charged the Samsung device three times more!

Navigation is quite simple – two hardware buttons – top one is home and apps button, the bottom one is programmable – with default behavior to switch on sports. Apparently you go back and forth using swipe actions. Swipe down for the quick settings, swipe left or right for the most commonly used features – heartrate, stress monitor, weather and music player. The sports modes are really a lot – you can choose from 13 different types of sport, and most of them have the option for voice assistant and persona trainer. The accuracy of sports measurements is very good, and at least in my opinion the accuracy of heartrate, GPS positioning and sleep tracking are among the best from the smartwatches released in late 2019 and early 2020.
Inside the settings menu you’re going to find the rest of the options to configure – this is where you can enable the always on display and some other functions.
The smartphone app is called “Health” – the same used by Huawei Watch GT2.
If you are up for getting an excellent looking smartwatch, with best in class battery life and great sports and fitness tracking (and lack of NFC, Strava integration and no maps support) – the MagicWatch 2 is by far the best you can buy at that price.
