Cleaning Your Camper Awning
#camperawning #rvawning #ilovervlife Cleaning your camper awning is an important maintenance task that should be performed at least once every year. It's not one of my favorite tasks due to the physical nature of the effort, but the results are worth the time and effort.
For this go round, we had deep mildew streaks on the bottom of the awning. With the lower side of awning being a white fabric, it looked really bad. There's little that can be done for prevention since the awning was rolled up during most of the winter months and moisture settling into the lower rolls of the fabric caused the dark mildew.
The solutions is simple. A garden sprayer, a gallon of water, 1 tablespoon of liquid Dawn dish detergent, 1 tablespoon of chlorine bleach, a good soft bristle brush and a substantial amount of elbow grease. Once the top and bottom of the awning has been cleaned and dried, I spray the top with 303 UV Aerospace Protectant to minimize the sun exposure and UV damage to the awning.
The results always amaze me. About an hour of work and the awning looks as good a new again.
