Virtual Tour: "Art Couture" Exhibition at the Cornell Art Museum

To bring you a #MuseumMomentofZen, enjoy this virtual exhibition from the Cornell Art Museum at Old School Square. (Located in the heart of charming Delray Beach, FL.)

Fashion and art have collided for centuries, and the Art Couture: The Intersection of Art and Fashion exhibition brings together contemporary art and the world of fashion design. The exhibition includes illustrations and clothing created by well-known fashion designers as well as contemporary art inspired by iconic designs of the fashion world.

Works included by the following artists:

SONYA SANCHEZ ARIAS (Sonya Sanchez Arias creates one of a kind limited edition ‘up-cycled and repurposed’ Art Jewelry and Mixed Media Art. The artist has gained recognition for her Recycled Art both nationally and in the Caribbean. Her paper dresses, mixed media assemblages and her new line of art jewelry showcase her interests in the natural organic beauty of nature and the transformative possibilities of repurposing found objects and discarded synthetic materials.)

CAROLINE DECHAMBY (Caroline Dechamby is a dutch self-taught painter and fashion designer. Starting to paint about thirty years ago after a modeling career in Paris, Caroline quickly met success in the art world. Her paintings have been internationally appreciated by many collectors since that day, and sold all over the world.)

SYLVESTRE GAUVRIT (French-born Sylvestre Gauvrit describes his sculptures as the coming together of positive and negative forces. He sees sculpture as “an interaction of space – occupied and empty – balance[d] between what you see and what you don’t see.” Gauvrit compares his works to classical music in that they are “delicate to understand -- complex yet simple.”)

RICK LAZES (Rick Lazes is a 3D artist who works in a variety of media including wood, plaster, stainless steel, glass, plexiglass, and marble. Lazes' first studio was heated by a coal potbelly stove on a West Virginia mountaintop, where he spent much of his time trying to stay warm while crafting his sculpture.)

JANE MAXWELL (Jane Maxwell uses collage to comment on the media and fashion industry’s obsession with female beauty. Maxwell often works with fashion imagery, deconstructing highly manufactured images of women—models, starlets, and other icons—replacing sexy clothing with layers of vintage produce labels, old Hollywood posters, and other related materials, and using repetition to underscore contemporary culture’s insistence on idealization and conformity.)

AMANDA PERNA (Two-time "Project Runway" contestant, fashion designer, illustrator and author. Founder of fashion lines founder of fashion lines "House of Perna" and "Neon Bohemians." Amanda Perna believes in looking beyond the easy road to follow your dreams.)

BECKY ROSA (Becky Rosa was born and raised in London, United Kingdom. Becky began her career through her streetwear brand; BRC STREET COUTURE (2013), a luxe label relying solely on her provocative designs. Selling worldwide, she became internationally recognized for her controversial style of manipulating pop culture icons and logos. Becky is responsible for the creation of designs such as Moet & Cocaine, Birkream, Chanerries, Habibi Dubai along with many others.)

ANDY WARHOL (More than twenty years after his death, Andy Warhol remains one of the most influential figures in contemporary art and culture. Warhol’s life and work inspires creative thinkers worldwide thanks to his enduring imagery, his artfully cultivated celebrity, and the ongoing research of dedicated scholars. His impact as an artist is far deeper and greater than his one prescient observation that “everyone will be world famous for fifteen minutes.” His omnivorous curiosity resulted in an enormous body of work that spanned every available medium and most importantly contributed to the collapse of boundaries between high and low culture.)

TIMO WEILAND (Timo Weiland is a fashion line for men and women designed by Tim Weiland, Donna Kang and Alan Eckstein. Based in the Garment District of New York City, Timo Weiland started as a neckwear collection and evolved into a full-range womenswear and menswear designer clothing line.)

STEPHEN WILSON (Conceptual artist Stephen Wilson's street-education of textile-based techniques began with a freelance career in New York's garment industry of the 90s. Employing embroidery, painting, 3D printing, photography, sculpture and more, Wilson's mixed-media assemblages are unique explorations of contemporary themes. His pieces often contain millions of embroidery stitches and take hundreds of hours to create.)

RUSSELL YOUNG (Russell Young is an American-British Pop artist known for his large-scale silkscreen paintings of cultural icons.)
