The Personal is Political | Nisha Patel | TEDxUAlberta

Nisha Patel is a spoken word artist from Edmonton, Alberta who began performing in 2015. Her poetry often speaks to themes of identity, mental illness, and women's issues. She was a member of the 2015 Edmonton Slam Team and recently competed at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word national championships. She has also competed at the Saskatchewan Festival of Words, the Edmonton Summer Slam finals, and the Next Fest Rise Up poetry slam.

Poets in the past have always been the outsiders - they've told the stories that other people don't want to listen to. In this engaging talk, Nisha Patel contrasts the voice spoken word poetry dons to marginalized individuals, and how such poetry revolutionizes the political systems which fail to give equal voice to everyone.
