The holy grail of Japanese jazz has finally been found! This album was completely lost for the past twenty years with no known copies out there.
I have been searching for this specific album for over two years, which has brought me into contact with some very cool and diverse people. I had practically given up all hope of ever finding this album, when I received a facebook message a few days ago. Someone had finally found the album through Ryo Fukui's widow, Yasuko.
In any case, all stories of how this album got discovered aside, it's a wonderful piano masterpiece from front to back.
It features both some of Ryo's original compositions aswell as covers by other artists. The tone is kept pretty minimal,
featuring just Ryo Fukui and his piano. This album was recorded at Lutheran Hall, Sapporo on the 4th and 5th of June 1994.
I hope you'll enjoy this album as much as I do and that the search was worth it. :)
TRACKLIST:
1. Voyage (Ryo Fukui)
2. Scenery (Ryo Fukui)
3. Mellow Dream (Ryo Fukui)
4. Nobody knows the trouble I've seen
5. Nobody's (Barry Harris)
6. My Conception (Sonny Clark)
7. After Hours (Avery Parrish)
8. Nord (Ryo Fukui)
CREDITS:
Ryo Fukui (piano)
Josh Coneby (for finding the album)
PS. Don't ask me where to buy this album since there is just one known copy out there. :p
