Voices on Art-A Conversation about Oscar de la Renta: Life, Influences, and Style

On October 8, 2017, for our series Voices on Art, Art This Week Productions filmed this conversation between André Leon Talley, former editor-at-large, “Vogue” magazine, and curator of the exhibition The Glamour and Romance of Oscar de la Renta; and Clifford Pugh, editor-in-chief, CultureMap, at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.

“André Leon Talley has been a front-row regular at fashion shows in New York, Paris, London, and Milan for more than 30 years. His career began in 1974 when he worked for Andy Warhol’s Factory in New York City and at Warhol’s Interview magazine, and Talley also volunteered for fashion columnist Diana Vreeland. From 1983 to 1987, Talley served as fashion news director at Vogue, then as creative director from 1988 to 1995, when he moved to Paris to work for W while continuing as a contributing editor to Vogue. In 1998, Talley returned to Vogue as editor-at-large until his departure in 2013.
On opening day of the exhibition The Glamour and Romance of Oscar de la Renta, CultureMap’s Clifford Pugh [editor-in-chief, CultureMap] talks with Talley, whose depth of knowledge and lifelong friendship with Oscar de la Renta promise to provide an unmatched perspective on the designer’s career.”

This video is an edited version of the conversation. Due to image rights issues, we were not able to use many of the images used in the talk. Where possible we used alternative photos of the dresses, when no image was available, we cut discussion of the ensemble.
