Road to the Games 17.01: Vellner & Fikowski

The fight for the final spot on the men’s podium at the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games came down to the last event. The crowd had to wait for the dust to settle before it knew which of Canada’s top male athletes—Brent Fikowski or Pat Vellner—would stand with Mat Fraser and Ben Smith at the medal ceremony.

The Canadian rivalry continued this season as Vellner and Fikowski went head-to-head in Open Workout 17.1 at Reebok CrossFit YUL in Quebec. In this behind-the-scenes look at the athletes’ preparations for the announcement, it’s clear that their rivalry is suffused with a healthy dose of camaraderie.
