(2017-2021) Yamaha YZF R6 vs Old (2006-2016) Yamaha R6! | Old or New?

👋 Today I compare the all new and current generation Yamaha YZF R6 to my older 2007 Yamaha R6! The current generation R6 sport bikes ranges from years 2017 to 2021 and has a razor sharp style! My 2007 R6 is nearly the generation before this bike and has a lot of similarities. 2007-2016 is my bikes generation with a slight engine upgrade for 2008+. Are there any big differences with the newest latest and greatest R6 compared to the older version? The overall design looks a lot different on the new bikes with the sharp front end and tail section. I love the new look and Yamaha does a good job making their bikes look race inspired. Gauge cluster is updated slightly with a few more functions and a larger screen with more readouts. Rear seat is way smaller than before and has no storage under it like mine does. Mechanical aspects aren't that much different. The engine is revised with higher compression ratio. Suspensions and brakes are also slightly different. So how do a few mechanical undated make the new R6 ride? Noticeably the new R6 handles tighter than my bike and the leaning abilities feel more smooth. The lower torque curve is noticeable and the new R6 can get the tire off the ground with the power. I like how much more nimble the new R6 feels and the smoother power is awesome! In our quick race between the new and old Yamaha R6, they were pretty close. While the new R6 did pull ahead quickly with the higher torque, the old R6 was actually right behind. The higher top end on the older bike made it keep up. Overall they are very similar in straight line acceleration. Power just comes on at different revs. While the new bike is noticeably better. I won't rush out to spend double the money for a used new version. Much less 3X more for a brand new one. However both bikes will depreciate the same, so it's just a matter of having more money sitting in the newer bike. Great bike overall and if you can justify the added cost, you'll enjoy riding a tighter and quicker bike! 🏎
