Госконтракт на капитальный ремонт танка Т-90А с модернизацией и приведением к виду Т-90М заключен между Министерством обороны России и "Уралвагонзаводом". Ключевым отличием танка от прежних моделей является башенный модуль новой конструкции с многослойным бронированием, с размещением боеукладки вне боевого отделения и с 125-мм пушкой 2А82-1М, такой же как у Т-14 «Армата», с увеличенной длиной ствола, повышенной живучести и точности. На танк установлена высокоавтоматизированная система управления огнём «Калина», дистанционно управляемая зенитная пулемётная установка «УДП Т05БВ-1» модульной конструкции с 12,7-мм пулемётом "«Корд МТ», радиостанция Р-168-25У-2 «Акведук» и вспомогательная силовая установка ДГУ7-27. Применено управление на основе штурвала и система автоматического переключения передач с возможностью перехода на ручное. На танк устанавливается моноблочная силовая установка В-92С2Ф мощностью 1130 л. с. Для защиты от огня противника машина оснащена противокумулятивными решётчатыми экранами и комплексом динамической защиты «Реликт». В корпусе танка, с целью повышения живучести, оптимизировано размещение топлива и боекомплекта, введены экраны, защищающие экипаж, боекомплект и оборудование от поражения вторичным потоком осколков. Установлен кондиционер, система вентиляции и обогрева. Планируется установка комплекса активной защиты «Арена-М». Боевая масса 48 тонн. Цель программы модернизировать все танки Т-90 до варианта. По требованию МинОбороны Уралвагонзавод готов производить и новые танки в случае необходимости. Напоминаем что Уралвагонзавод сейчас ведет массовую модернизацию танков Т72 до варианта Т72Б3М. В отличие от Т-90М на танк устанавливается пушка 2А46М-5.
