Turning a $20 grocery cake into a wedding cake! #Cakefail or #Cakewin

Can you turn a $20 grocery store cake into a wedding cake? If you're like me, you've seen this trend floating around Youtube for about a year, and I finally decided to give it a try. For this video, I used 2 store bought 1/4 sheet cakes, milkshake straws, a bouquet of flowers, 1 batch of American buttercream, and gold luster dust. The total cost for this came out to around $60.

Based on my experience, I don't think this trend is very useful. I had such a hard time with the store bought frosting and had quite a lot of cake scraps. While I was able to make a cake, I think I could make a better cake from scratch with the same amount of money. But I want to hear from you! Would you call this a cake fail or a cake win?
