Cudeman 299B Boina Verde A Big Knife for Wilderness Survival

Cudeman 299B Boina Verde field test and review in English. The 299B is a big tactical knife from the Spanish knife manufacturer Cudeman, who have been making quality knives for over 25 years.
Whilst the 299B is under Cudeman's tactical range, I see how it performs for hardcore wilderness camping and possible survival duties in the bush, like tree felling, batoning, preparing camping essentials, food prepping and lighting fires.I review the steel alloy N695 from Böhler used in this knife and let you in on an interesting fact or two about this alloy.
The 299B comes with a hollow grind. But it is in no way a weak blade just watch and see!

Here are my Ratings for the 299B

Comfort during use 9/10 though the handle design could be better from an ergonomic point. It shouldn't get larger towards the butt end as this tends to make your grip loosen when swinging the knife, so it's a 9 out of 10 for the grip/comfort and should be a 10 for such a big heavy knife. Be careful not to place thumb over wire cutter notches on the spine, they won't cut you but they are uncomfortable.

Edge holding performance 10/10
For overall performance I rate this knife at 9/10
Carry comfort of the leather scabbard 9/10- stay tuned there is a Kydex sheath for this knife that will be reviewed soon! No it won't they never sent me one as they promised!
Functionality for wilderness camping 8.5/10 (8.5 because the handle could be ergonomic-it's not and it's pretty heavy- see below)
Note the 299B is too short for a Zombie killer!
It's one heavy knife and I wouldn't recommend long trips with it.

As a tactical knife- it's too shiny! The three wire cutter notches can be useful too but only for cutting plain wire.or barbed wire, they will not work for razor wire. They would work on some types electric fences but due to the non insulated handle, you'd be in for a surprise/ very dangerous unless wearing appropriate high voltage insulating gloves, at least on the hand that holds the knife LOL. So that's some of the reasons why I say it's not really a tactical knife, if you associate the word "tactical" with Military applications. The original design the blade was blackened, not shiny.

The blade profile is a Saber (saber) hollow grind.

See my blog http://hardcorecampingtools.blogspot....
for more on this latter point.

Please note:
The 299B shown in this video does not come with any of the paracord you see wrapped around the sheath nor tied to the rear lanyard hole.

"wilderness survival" as a knife probably not it's a bit too heavy but a good knife.

The designer of original blade was Mr Angel Corts.

Enjoy!
