आज के समय में दुनिया भर के लोगों के लिए ट्रेवल करने का सबसे आसान वाहन एयरप्लेन ही होता है और लोग सबसे पहले इसे ही प्रिफेर करते हैं। लोगों के बिजी शेड्यूल में अपने समय को बचाने और सेफ ट्रेवल करना हो तो लोगों के जुबान पर शायद सबसे पहले फ्लाइट्स से यात्रा करने का सुझाव पहले आये। आज के समय में दुनिया भर में देशों और शहरों के बीच करीब 1 लाख से ज्यादा फ्लाइट्स चलती हैं। अकेले यूनाइटेड स्टेट में करीब हरल दिन 5 हजार फ्लाइट्स उड़ान भरती हैं। 21वीं सेंचुरीं में कहीं भी ट्रेवल करने के लिए हवाई जहाज से उड़ान भरना आपके लिए सबसे सुरक्षित तरीकों में से एक है, लेकिन ऐसा नहीं है कि फ्लाइट में ट्रेवल कर रहे हैं तो इसमें एक्सिडेंट ही नहीं होता है। आखिर है भी तो ये एक मशीन है न,, तो एक्सिडेंट की संभावना इसमें भी होती है। और इस वाहन को लेकर जितना ध्यान और सावधानियां रखना जरूरी होता है उतना शायद किसी और वाहनों में नहीं पड़ता है। मान लीजिए कि एक कार लेकर किसी काम से कहीं जा रहे हैं और बीच रास्ते में ही गाड़ी का डीजल या गैस खत्म हो जाए तो वह गाड़ी बंद हो जाएगी और ठहरी हुई होगी जिससे आप उसे धक्का लगा कर भी गैस स्टेशन पर ले जा सकते हैं लेकिन वही अगर एयर प्लेन के साथ होता है तो शायद आप हवा में धक्का तो नहीं लगा सकते न। विमान में अगर पर्याप्त गैस न होने से स्थिति कितनी भयानक हो सकती है इसका आंकलन आप भी नहीं कर सकते हैं। ऐसा ही कुछ हुआ था 23 जुलाई 1983 को Air Canada Flight 143 के ड्राइवर ग्रुप के साथ। इस फ्लाइट के साथ भी कुछ ऐसा हुआ था कि आप निकले हैं काम से और आधे में ही गाड़ी में हवा खत्म हो गई हो।
