The Final Link: Transferring the Power

The engine in the Pata Yamaha R1 WorldSBK machine produces in excess of 220BHP, but all that power needs to be transferred to the rear wheel with minimal loss, otherwise the rider will go nowhere. This power transfer is achieved using simple, but ultimately reliable, technology in the form of the front and rear sprockets and the all-important chain that connects the two.

Michael van der Mark's Crew Chief and former two-time World Supersport Champion, Andrew Pitt, explains how the chain and sprockets transfer the power of the engine to the rear wheel and how the components are maintained to ensure minimal transfer loss.
