Welcome to our complete Travel Guide about Koh Lipe, which is one of the most popular island in Thailand. This L-shaped island(Max width 2.5 km and Max length 2 km) is located in the southern Thailand`s province, near the Malaysia border. The island belongs to the Adang-Rawi Archipelago and is situated, on the outskirts of the Tarutao National Marine Park. Koh Lipe means Paper Island in Chao Ley, which is the language of the original Sea Gypsies that first inhabited the island.

How to get here?
Airasia sells fly tickets direct from Bangkok to Koh Lipe for around 2,000 thb in low season, and 4,000 thb in high season and public holidays, one way ticket.
-From BKK to Hat Yai airport 1.5 hrs
-From the airport to Pak Bara Pier 2 hrs
-From Pak Bara Pier to Koh Lipe 1.5 hrs

In high season, you can also take a speed boat from, Phuket(2 hrs), Krabi(2 hrs) and Koh Lanta(3 hrs) stopping in Koh Ngai and Koh Mook. From Langkawi in Malaysia it takes 1,5 hrs.
In low season there are only speed boats from Pak Bara Pier.

Which month is best for Koh Lipe?
There are mainly two seasons in the island. High season, from November to April. You can expect warm sunny weather and little rain fall. If you are visiting the island during December and January, we recommend you book your accommodation in advance.

Is Koh Lipe expensive?
The island is more expensive than other Thai islands, especially accommodation and mini-Marts. There are restaurants that sell food & beer for reasonable prices. Main dishes for 80-110 thb, and 20-30 thb for rice and beer for 60-80 thb. Taxi around the island costs 50 thB/person.

Beaches
Sunrise Beach. As the name suggests, this is the best place to watch the sunrise on the island, and going up early in the morning, can really be worth it, since the sunrises here, have the reputation of being amazing. Our favorite spot in this beach, is right in front of Ten Moons Resort.
Pattaya Beach. Is the main arrival point on the island. There are some speed boats departing in the morning, and arriving in the afternoon, but otherwise it is a quite relaxing place. While in Pattaya Beach, try to visit Sanom beach , which is one of our favorite in the island.
Sunset Beach.This is the best spot to watch the sunset. This part of the island, is less developed than Sunrise and Pattaya Beach. This side of the island is perfect for snorkeling. This beach is definitely a must-see in Koh Lipe.
Other Beaches. We strongly recommend Bulow and Sanom beaches, they are definitely worth a visit. You can also watch the sunset from Bulow.

Best hotels in Koh Lipe
In our opinion, In Sunset Beach, is Bayview Hill Resort.
In Sunrise Beach, Castaway Resort and Ten Moons Resort which is a good but expensive one....
Gecko Lipe Resort, is situated in the middle of the island, close to the Walking street. It takes 5 mins to walk to Sunrise and Pattaya Beach and 10 mins walking to Sunset Beach. We spent a couple of days here.. The Sunflower Lipe, is situated close to sunrise Beach. The owner is so lovely, she takes good care of the stray dogs in the island. The money she gets from the Resort, goes to the feeding and caring of the animals.
Budget Hotels
There are a few budget hostels and hotels around walking street. We recommend Corner Hostel and Street Hostel for around 500 thb/day.

Nightlife in Koh Lipe
Koh Lipe has a relaxed nightlife, with a few laid back bars. Remember, that this paradise isn`t a party island, this is more like a meditation and yoga place.
We can recommend: Corner Bar, Maya Bar, Elephant Bar, The Heaven Bar with live music on daily basis.

Things to do in the island
-watch the sunrise and sunset
-Snorkeling off the shores of the island.
-Diving & snorkeling trip around the 51 islands of the Rawi-Adang archipelago.
-Kayak from Sunrise Beach to Koh Usen or Koh Kahra. It costs 200 thb/hour.
-Get a Thai massage or foot massage. Most places charge only 200 Thb/hour
-Eat seafood at the BBQ shops on the walking street.
-Make a day trip to koh Adang.
-Hiking around the island
