Macbook magsafe repair (long vid)

My magsafe connector developed a fault. It was getting very warm and the led charging light would go off and on intermittently.

I decided to have a go at repairing the lead or connector.

I thought this video would help others who have a similar problem. It is a bit tricky to do
and video at the same time. If you are going to do it, a magnifying glass on one of those crocodile clip helping hands is helpful.

I think that this fault will be very common and considering they cost so much, ought to be made more easy to repair, with perhaps a screw case opener. This would allow easy access to the solder terminals to enable re-soldering of the wires. Or maybe Apple could supply just the magsafe end with cable for a realistic price, so we could buy the spare bit and join the cable.

I went into the apple store the other day (Sept 2012) to see if the new magsafe connector looked more robust. Unfortunately I saw the cable near the connector on a few of the machines with visible signs of metal fatigue. This is not a good sign. I am disappointed they have not made an improvement to the longevity of this part . Check it out for yourself.
