Mohan Lal Sukhadia was just 38 years old when he first became Chief Minister of Rajasthan. He is the youngest and longest-serving Chief Minister of Rajasthan until today. Mohan Lal Sukhadia and Indu Sukhadia got married on June 1, 1938. This was an inter-caste marriage. Sukhadia's mother was an Orthodox Vaishnav and inter-caste marriages were considered a crime during that period. Mohan Lal Sukhadia was from Nathdwara town of Mewar state. Nathdwara was the epicenter of the Vaishnav sect of the Hindu religion. This inter-cast marriage was the subject of outrage in Nathdwara's Vaishnav community. Markets were shut down in the protest. This marriage was a milestone in Sukhadia's political life. Mohan Lal Sukhadia became the youth icon in the Mewar region of Rajasthan. Later, Mohan Lal Sukhadia became the poster boy of the anti-Vyas campaign. On November 12, 1954, Vyas lost the battle and Mohan Lal Sukhadia became the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
