Black Smoke, Heavy Grades - J541 on the VGR: Australian Trains

In this upload I've gone back into the archives from 30 December 2007 when oil burning steam locomotive J541 was in operation on the regular Sunday heritage services at the Victorian Goldfields Railway, in central Victoria, Australia.

The railway operates a 10 mile branchline with many 1 in 40 grades between Castlemaine and the historic town of Maldon, right in the middle of gold mining country. Heritage steam hauled services are operated on most Sundays and Wednesdays throughout the year.

J541 has since been purchased by the Yarra Valley Railway and is currently at Newport Workshops undergoing a major overhaul before returning to service at Healesville in the near future.

While several shots have previously been uploaded in standard definition, this is the first time the full sequence from the day has been made publicly available and in high definition.
