This is the new Huawei Freebuds 3i, it sounds good, easy to pair up with your smartphone, has a dual-mic active noise cancellation feature, it's reasonably priced, but does it put the I in Music?

The Freebuds 3i is one of the best-looking earbuds out there, out of the box, you have a USB C charging cable, a case that also charges the Freebuds 3i and inside the case, you get the Freebuds 3i itself. There's also a simple instruction manual to get you started, but you know, as a tech guy, I never read them.

The back of the case features a USB C connection for charging, a welcomed feature as it means I can use the same one as my P40 Pro and next to it is a button for pairing and checking battery levels. The case has two indicator lights, one on the front so you can quickly see when it's charging and when it's fully charged. The one inside is also useful for when paring as it would flash when it's pairing mode is activated. Two things about the case, first, as mentioned before it's also a charging case, getting up to 3.5 hours of listening time on a single charge, the charging case delivers up to 14.5 hours of battery life. Secondly, if you have a Huawei smartphone running EMUI 10 and up, you can easily and automatically pair your Freebuds 3i when you pop open the case; you get a pop-up window on your phone when the charging case is open, and it also shows your battery status.

The Freebuds 3i earbuds are designed to fit perfectly in your ears so whether you're just sitting in a coffee shop listening to music or jogging, they stay in tightly without irritating. In the box, you get four different flexible silicone tip sizes so you can pick the right ones for you. Picking the right size means they seal it perfectly and maximize its sound quality.

Each earbud has built-in capacitive sensors so you can long tap to activate noise cancellation and double-tap to play/pause music, or answer/end calls, you can also download the Huawei AI life app to change the settings. In the settings, you can also change whether you want your music to automatically start or stop when you remove them from your ears and when you put them back in. My experience so far? The tap to control is responsive and once you get used to it, it's pretty straightforward.

Ok, the most important part, the sound microphone performance for calls, connectivity, active noise cancellation:

The Freebuds 3i uses two outward-facing mics is detecting ambient noise to actively counter with noise-cancelling, and a third inward-facing mic is picking up any other noises in your ears for further cancellation, it lowers the noise level down by up to 32 dB. Imagine your vacuum cleaner is commonly around 70dB, the Freebuds 3i can cocoon you into a 32 dB level, like a whisper only you can hear, and with 10 mm dynamic drivers, it sounds great. Listening to my hip-hop and RnB music genre, I didn't need to adjust any equaliser to enjoy the experience, although if you do have a Huawei smartphone, you can tweak that in the settings too and even adjust to suit whether you're watching movies, music or just let it automatically adjust.

For making calls, it comes with two outward-facing mics to pick up your voice while avoiding outside noises, and a third inward-facing mic that receives the voice conducted inside your ears to further enhance call quality. In real terms, people heard me clearly even in a noisy environment, just imagine active noise cancellation, but for speaking.

Overall, the Freebuds 3i has a decent battery life and even more with the case. If there's anything, I wish it had wireless charging capability so I can just pop it on a charging plate when I'm working. I like its ceramic white colour and portable, lightweight design. The earbuds are super secure in-ear and the sound quality is a pleasant surprise. With so many good things to say about the Freebuds 3i, it comes in at £89.99, a cost that won't break the bank at all.
