With this book Tove Jansson made her breakthrough as a picture book artist, and it was even praised as the most original children’s book of the year by the critics. We’re talking about the Book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My from 1952, of course – an adventure based on exciting cliffhangers, a fascinating example of Jansson’s craftsmanship and creativity and an explosion of strong colors and emotions. But which color is totally missing from the book?

In this short documentary, Tove Jansson’s striking original illustrations come to life through new animations, accompanied by newly written music by composer and Stratovarius bassist Lauri Porra. You will also see unique material from the archives, showing Jansson’s handcrafted drafts and mini models of the book, shedding new light on how complicated it was to design “the crown jewel of Moomin books” without any of the modern technology we have today.
