Inge Borkh, electrifying in the finale of Cherubini's Medea: E che? Io son Medea

Among the many interpreters of the strenuous and intense role of Medea, in Luigi Cherubini's homonymous opera, since Callas and Vittorio Gui rediscovered this great opera in 1953, one of the least well known and unfairly neglected is definitely Inge Borkh. A remarkably fiery Salome and Elektra, Borkh also had a vibrant and darkish beauty in her tone and a beautiful command of the nuances of the vocal lines which fit operas from the Classicist period very well (her Klytämnestra in Gluck's Iphigenia in Aulis is a marvel!). Here she sings electrifyingly with Ludwig Suthaus, with his very solid and powerful dramatic tenor making an excellent performance as Jason. As in Callas' first Medea, Vittorio Gui is the (great) conductor.

This 1958 performance is sung in German (no worries, the Italian one used by Callas wasn't the original, too, and was actually an Italian translation of this German-language version by Lachner).
