Responding to Rising Armed Conflict in South Asia | Binalakshmi Nepram | TEDxSecunderabad

Meet Binalakshmi Nepram- Author, Activist and Peacemaker from Manipur, India.
Binalakshmi has been spearheading work on making disarmament a movement and an issue that is meaningful to people's lives.

Binalakshmi co-founded India's first civil society organization which is working on conventional disarmament issues- Control Arms Foundation of India. She has also founded the Manipur Women Gun Survivor Network in order to help thousands of women who are affected by gun violence in her home-state Manipur.

In this talk at TEDxSecunderabad, she drew the attention of the audience on involving women in conflict resolution.

Named in the Top 100 most influential people in the world on Armed Violence reduction, Binalakshmi has received several awards for her contributions, namely:
CNN-IBN Indian of the Year
Sean MacBride Peace Prize
L`Oreal Paris Femina Women Award

Binalakshmi Nepram is a writer and civil rights activist, spearheading work on making women-led disarmament a movement. She has authored four books since 1992 – “Poetic Festoon”, “South Asia’s Fractured Frontier”, “Meckley” and “India and the Arms Trade Treaty” – and is working on her fifth one that talks about Women, Peace and Security in Northeast India also discusses the issue of rising racism in India. This Manipuri political icon co-founded India’s first civil society organization in 2004. The organisation is working on conventional disarmament issues. In 2007 she launched the Manipur Women Gun Survivor Network to help the thousands of women affected by gun violence in her home-state. She has, on several occasions, represented Indian civil society in various women and disarmament meetings held at United Nations in New York.
