RBA doesn’t have ‘much more tolerance’ of any ‘surprises’ on inflation or employment

Judo Bank Chief Economist Warren Hogan says the Reserve Bank of Australia doesn’t have “much more tolerance” for any “upside surprises” on either inflation or employment.

“They’re pretty close to hiking rates, but they’re just being very cautious in the way they talk about it right now,” he told Sky News Australia.

This comes after an uncertain economic outlook led the RBA to keep interest rates firm at 4.35 per cent on Tuesday.

RBA Governor Michele Bullock is warning the government not to add to inflationary pressures as rising petrol prices already put Australia’s recent progress at risk.

The Reserve Bank has indicated rates will need to stay higher for longer to bring down inflation.
