Tired of getting triggered? Try THIS
If you struggle with feeling triggered, I’m sharing a simple way to stop your mind from spiraling out of control.
Feeling triggered is the start of your body’s reaction to anxiety. Anxiety always begins with a worry or a thought that is triggered by something from your past.
This is what I want you to do to stop the downward spiral in its tracks:
1. Write down your triggers.
2. For every trigger that you wrote down, ask yourself “what exactly am I worried about?”
3. Write down an anchor thought that grounds you when you start to feel triggered.
Knowing what triggers you and how you will ground yourself ahead of time will help you take control over your mind and interrupt your default negative thinking.
Use this trick when you get nervous about confronting your roommate. When your mind starts spiraling about applying for your dream job. When you get overwhelmed by what you want to do with your life. When you catch yourself worrying about college applications. Use this any time you start to feel your stress and anxiety set in.
It’s going to take practice. You have to use this method over and over and over and OVER again in order to cut off the habit of negative thinking. But it will be worth it.
