This video is all about what rookie police must know for job performance and maintain a good quality of life while working as a police officer. I could have made a list of 100 things, but I kept it to 11, and these 11 are ever so valuable. Please understand you are getting into a very challenging job, and I hope you are in it for the right reasons.

Unfortunately some get into it because they just figured they would try it out, and then get the reality check all too quickly when the you-know-what hits the fan. So, if you are the right person and in it for the right reasons, then I would say, never forget your reason for starting.

However, please understand you are not a big deal. WHAT?! I know, it sounds harsh, but I told every rookie police officer I trained that crime existed before they arrived, and it will exist after they leave. The department they work for is the same way. Do what you can to make a difference, but please do not let your head explode of thinking you are a big deal.

Also, I will give you simple yet profound advice on how to stay sane mentally during the job. One of the best ways to stay healthy is to not think about policing on your days off.

Your mind will already be racing because of the hyper-arousal state you have to be in while on duty, so on days off, do not expose it to any stimulus that triggers the senses that you are aware and awake.
