In this video, I explain the symptoms of low stomach acid, and why low acid affects your health. The biggest one is indigestion when you eat something. You may feel stomach acid, feel full, and perhaps even be a little nauseated. The food’s just not breaking down because you don’t have enough stomach acid.

The second symptom is intestinal gas. I’m not talking about if you just consumed sugar alcohols, or beans or fruit. I mean when you eat and then a little later you have gas.

The third symptom is heartburn when you eat. Not when you have an empty stomach, but when you eat.

All three of these symptoms indicate that you have low stomach acid. But why should you care? Let’s take a look at the purpose of stomach acid.

Number one is to break down proteins; not completely, but enough so that with the help of enzymes, you easily digest theml. Number two is to kill pathogens and microbes from the food you eat. And number three is to help you absorb minerals, even B12 (cobalamin)..

Now, B12 is absorbed lower in your digestive tract, but you have something in your intestines called the intrinsic factor that helps you absorb B12.

One of the dangerous things about not having enough stomach acid is that your body doesn’t release the factor that helps you absorb B12. You can start to develop a condition called pernicious anemia. Pernicious means gradual, in a subtle way, but dangerous. Pernicious anemia can be a quite serious health problem.

As well, a lack of B12 can create serious permanent neurological side effects, such as stabbing pain in your brain; your gait is off; or, you feel out of balance. You could get peripheral neuropathies, tingling, and numbness. Just from not having enough stomach acid.

Then you have the valve at the top of your stomach, which doesn’t close, leading to GERD. Of course, you then get told to take antacids, making the situation worse.

I want you to try this simple solution: put a couple of tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar (ACV) in water and drink it before you eat. Also take betaine hydrochloride. You can get both these together in a pill. Over time, this will build up the hydrochloric acid in your stomach. You also need to eat healthy.

Can you see why you should be concerned if you have symptoms of low stomach acid?
