Corvallis Science Pub, Topic Pacific Lampreys
Pacific lamprey lack the charisma of Chinook salmon, steelhead or even sturgeon, but the decline of these native Northwest fish could have important consequences for rivers and streams. At the Corvallis Science Pub, Jeremy Monroe of Freshwaters Illustrated and Oregon State University fish biologist Carl Schreck take us underwater to see Pacific lamprey in their native habitat. They describe what researchers are doing to understand lamprey behavior, to predict the consequences of lamprey decline for aquatic ecosystems and to promote conservation with state, federal and tribal governments.
