The Musical Offering is the "Art of the Canon" in two different forms: the finished canon (or closed canon) and the perpetual (or open canon). The form of the canon is born from the strictest imitation of two or more voices (since the canon can be composed for six voices and more). For the composer it is the most difficult form since it is the geometrical representation of a harmony of the same nature as that of numbers.
