Dalai Lama Apologizes After Asking Boy To 'Suck' on His Tongue

The Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of the Tibetan community, apologized on Monday after a video of him kissing a young boy on the lips sparked outrage. In the same video, he is heard asking the boy to suck his tongue. The video only started circulating on social media recently but was taken during a public event in India in February.

In the video, the young boy asks for a hug and the Dalai Lama tells him to come up to the platform where he is seated. During their interaction, the Dalai Lama gives the boy a kiss on the mouth and pokes out his tongue saying, "suck my tongue.”

The office for the Dalai Lama issued an apology, saying the spiritual leader “regrets the incident.” “His Holiness wishes to apologize to the boy and his family, as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words may have caused," the statement reads.

“His Holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and before cameras.”
