Two types of roof are available for the smart.
Here, the plastic full roof is replaced with a panoramic roof.
Mask off the edges to protect the roof frame.
Remove all roof trim parts on the inside.
Insert cutting wire into the roof glue.
Ask someone to help you.
Cut off and remove the roof together.
Wipe off any plastic shavings and remove the residues of the old adhesive bead.
Remove the adhesive tape.
A special bonding kit is required for the panoramic roof.
It contains a special primer.
By way of comparison, here is the bonding kit for the plastic full roof.
The cleaning agent and primer are not suitable for the panoramic roof.
Apply the spacers from the panoramic roof bonding kit.
Distribute the adhesive rubber pieces at regular intervals behind the bonding surface.
Carefully put the panoramic roof on with the help of an assistant.
Average out the exact position using a gauge.
All of the distances to the roof paneling and windshield ...
... must comply with the dimension specifications for gap dimensions.
Check the gaps on both sides.
If necessary, move the roof and mark its position with adhesive tape.
Cut through the marking strips and remove the roof again.
Clean the roof on the bonding surface with the cleaning and drying cloth.
The primer then adheres better.
Allow primer to flash off for 10 - 15 minutes.
After cleaning the adhesive seam on the body also apply the primer to the roof frame.
After a flash-off time of 10 - 15 minutes, apply the adhesive bead.
Now quickly remove all protective strips from the rubber spacers.
Put the panoramic roof on.
Adjust the position of the roof relative to the body using the adhesive strips.
Put the supplied styrofoam frame on top.
Press the roof down firmly using sacks of sand.
Allow the adhesive to dry for at least 2 hours before moving the vehicle.
Reinstall the interior trim.
This completes the job.
