Extending USB Cable by Stripping and Soldering Two USB Cables
Two USB 2.0 cables can be joined by stripping (or splicing) and soldering the wires in the two USB cables. This method may be used if there is no available USB extension cable. The maximum total length should be no more than 5 meters, or 16 feet. This is based on USB specification. If longer cable is needed, a USB active repeater should be used. The method can also be used for repairing USB cables.
