Giant Otters of Brazil | The World's Largest Otter

The Pantanal: the largest tropical wetland on earth. Located mainly in Brazil, it’s home to a number of iconic species – like the giant otter, an enormous member of the weasel family that can grow to an amazing 1.8 meters long.

Giant otters are expert fishers, highly sociable, and not short of a dance move or two… In our latest video, we explore their lifestyle – but also look at the threats to their habitat that make them an endangered species on the IUCN Red List.

These gentle giants are urgently in need of protected areas, more research, and conservation action. Check out international giant otter projects below:

🦦 Save the Giants
Save the Giants is a non-profit, community-driven conservation organization that's dedicated to preserving wildlife via a multi-disciplinary approach. The focal species for Save the Giants is the critically endangered Giant Otter.

Currently fundraising to build a science center in the village of Yupukari. This center will be a hub for all the conservation work Save The Giants is doing in the field, a place to store field equipment, a place for researchers to stay but most importantly a science center for the entire community to have access to more educational opportunities in STEM. It will have computers for use to the community and for entering critical data to the STG otter database, a wet lab and an opportunity for them to educate the guests about the important conservation projects taking place in communities.
