Tree Trapped Crash / Long Beach 1.6.19

LONG BEACH - Two people were trapped in a truck after sliding of the freeway into a tree. A female passenger was trapped for about 15 minutes before being freed and transported to a local hospital via ambulance. The male driver was trapped for over an hour before he was freed. The Jaws of Life were used to free both victims. The truck was possible involved with one or two other vehicles, but per a witness one driver might have left the scene.

The truck hit a tree, and the tree along with gravity hampered the efforts of the firefighters. LBFD secured the truck to their trucks using chains and pulleys and eventually moved the truck away from the tree by hand. The truck basically sucked up the tree and wrapped the motor around it. Both victims are trauma criteria and transported to trauma centers.

CHP is investigating the crash. Roads were wet and it was raining during the extrication.
