So a tummy tuck has one of the longest recoveries of all the
procedures we do. It's not super, super long,
but it is longer than some of these just two or three days.
So I want to ask you about all the things that we've been wanting to know.
Like, when can I shower? Most importantly, when can I pick up my kids?
When can I drive? When can I get back to work?
When can I have sex? Some of those things, so I can plan this into my life.
So, showering is important. After a tummy tuck, when can I shower?
So most patients get the liberty of showering on Day 2, which is great.
Everybody is so excited that they can actually take a
shower and they feel a little bit more clean,
and a little bit more coming back to life, from what I hear.
What do most people say about taking care of their children
and things like that afterwards?
I know everybody's got different age children at home.
But, when can I mom again?
Well, it's hard because it really depends on how old your children are
or really how much help you have at home with the kids.
Most patients, I usually say, give yourself a solid week before you're picking up your kids,
before you're back into like the routine of doing laundry
and cooking meals, and even at that point,
you're probably not full-fledged doing it.
So most people, speaking from their experiences that they have told me, is about two weeks
until they're starting to get back to some sort of normalcy.
Is that same with driving? Is driving two weeks too?
So, most patients aren’t driving themselves to their first
post-op here, which is about seven days after their procedure.
They tend to have somebody drive them.
We ask that unless you're off of pain meds
and you feel completely comfortable stopping if a four-year-old were to jump out in middle
of the road, and you've got full range of motion, that you probably shouldn't drive.
It's on average about 7 to 10 days.
How about exercise and things like that?
So, for most people six weeks. You definitely don't want to engage if you're
having muscle repair, doing any sort of core exercises
for a solid six weeks.
So no weightlifting, abdomen workouts, sometimes yoga, or exercises like that.
Getting into cardio, you can do it at about four weeks, so light, brisk walking, or sometimes getting on a treadmill,
It felt good for me to be walking a couple miles like every day at the one week and two week mark,
but I didn't have my heart rate up super high or anything, I was just moving.
Yeah, and the more you move the quicker you recover,
so you definitely don't want to be laying
there for two weeks doing nothing.
Speaking of moving, how about sex?
When can I have sex after my tummy tuck?
When you feel comfortable.
So husband's back off for a little bit,
but give yourself a solid couple weeks for sure.
Got it. Then that goes into the garment thing too, though.
I know there's like a garment, a compression garment, that is included afterwards.
How long do we have to wear that?
So, we ask that patients wear for a solid six weeks,
but it's like a security blanket
for most patients and they want to wear it a little bit longer
because it's nice and it's secure. Not during the summer months, patients don't want to wear it,
but definitely during the winter.
But we ask six weeks.
Yeah, it helped with swelling. I noticed days
I didn't wear it, I was definitely more swollen.
It didn't cause any harm but made me feel uncomfortable and days
I wore it more, I didn't have as much swelling.
Where did this bloat come from?
